beyond a buddy foundation resumes puppy foster program
Effective August 10, 2022, the Beyond A Buddy Foundation has resumed its Puppy Foster Program, allowing members of the public to temporarily foster a future service dog.
The Board of Directors said “We are thrilled to resume our puppy foster program, the last couple years have been difficult but we are still standing. We are reaffirming our commitment to our clients by once again allowing members of the public to foster soon to be service dogs, this part of our programing is very much the back bone of our operation and we can’t do this work without our volunteers. When we terminated this program we did not want to resume until we were able to remove the financial obligation of a deposit to be a puppy foster and today we are glad to say that deposits are no longer required. This is in large part thanks to our new Volunteer Vetting Policy, where volunteers go through a somewhat extensive background and reference check. We do this with a two step interview process, where we request variety of information ranging from character references to using a volunteer screening service provided by Sterling Volunteers. Additionally, all volunteers will participate in an interview with a member of our Board of Directors and must submit a written statement about why they wish to become a puppy foster”.
The organization believes that this new process will increase positive outcomes in the long term and has already completed vetting of the first 5 volunteer puppy fosters, who are expected to receive their foster puppies later this month.
